Juliet has a lot to worry about. Her younger sister, Oaf, won't stop following her around. Her dad is always lost in scientific thought, her mom works long hours, and her grandmother refuses to wear her medical safety alarm. Plus, Hugh Allen, "famous for being the biggest bully at Wattle Street Primary," won't leave her alone, and Juliet's two best friends are competing over her. Luckily, Juliet has the Worry Tree painted on the wall in her room-she can "hang" her worries on the tree every night so they won't keep her awake.
Summary Juliet has many worries: Oaf is a constant pest, her parents fight about Martin’s junk collection, Lindsay and Gemma are competing over who is Juliet’s best friend, Hugh Allen is always bullying Juliet, and Nana seems so unhappy about being old. When Juliet moves into her own bedroom, the peeling wallpaper reveals what Nana explains is a worry tree. Hanging her worries on its branches helps Juliet deal with her stress; learning that there are some problems she cannot solve also helps.
