Jane is apprenticed to her best friend, Pyg, a sculptor. One day, Pyg buys a special block of marble. After weeks of work, he unveils his masterpiece: a statue of a goddess. Although Jane thinks she looks heartless, the statue is so beautiful that Pyg buys her gifts and wishes she were real. Then one day, Pyg's hopes are fulfilled; his goddess steps off her pedestal. "Now get me out of here," she says. "I've been a rock for twenty million years and I'm ready for some excitement." Full-color illustrations.
