Emily got a new raincoat. It was bright orange and it had clasps and buttons and zippers and straps and buckles and at least seven pockets. But she was mad because she had asked for a yellow raincoat." Then Emily discovers that the orange raincoat grants wishes! Turning her brother into a dog? Done. A million dollars? Done. Her very own purple gorilla? Done. But while some wishes are wonderful, others can cause trouble. Full-color ink, watercolor, and collage illustrations.
Summary Emily’s new raincoat is bright orange and much too big. When she wishes it would fit, the raincoat does! Later, when her angry wish turns her brother into a dog, Emily realizes she has a magic raincoat. She makes several more wishes, and they all come true—but not all of them turn out well, and Emily decides to wish only for good causes. As she sleeps, her mother trades her coat with Mei’s family next door, because Mei has a yellow raincoat. Emily sees that Mei is misusing the raincoat and manages to trade back. Both agree that a magic raincoat is too special to wear every day.
