As if getting dumped isn't embarrassing enough, Jen also has to deal with a humiliating gift from her grandmother: The Breakup Bible, a cliché-ridden heap of self-help nonsense. It might be fine for getting over an arrogant, thoughtless slob, but Max is wonderful. So wonderful that Jen can't stop thinking about him, especially since he's her editor at the school paper. When Jen sees him with another girl, will she finally be reduced to following The Breakup Bible's advice?
Summary When Max suddenly breaks up with Jennifer, she thinks she is going to die. Her grandmother’s idea of helping Jennifer cope is to buy her a self-help book for empowerment after breakups, titled The Breakup Bible. Jennifer is alternately offended, fascinated, and repulsed by the self-help book with its Ten Breakup Commandments and its personal affirmations. Meanwhile, Jennifer must cope with the rest of her life, including an important article on race relations for the school paper, an internship application for the New York Times, and the blind date her father’s boyfriend has set up for her. But all Jennifer really wants is to get back together with Max.
