On the same day their friend Tommy goes missing, Mike, Mixer, and Bones's least-favorite teacher, Mr. Haberman, uses a strange teaching aid to start his unit on Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. He asks the students to strike a barrel filled with a mysterious heavy item and guess what is inside. No one guesses correctly, and Haberman does not reveal the answer. But when he asks Mike, Mixer, and Bones to help him dump the item into the trunk of his car after class, they think that whatever is underneath those blankets looks a lot like a dead body.
