Summary Tony is an overweight loner who spends all his time outside of school working in the family restaurant. His lone pleasure is in sketching and planning someday to execute large-scale graffiti. Tired of the bullying he receives at school from a particular teacher and student, Tony lashes out by painting graffiti caricatures of his tormenters on the teacher’s car and the school wall. Not knowing what to do, Tony’s parents send him to Shanghai to work in his uncle’s restaurant and learn some discipline. In addition to giving Tony an exercise regime and working him hard in the restaurant, Tony’s uncle wants him to learn about Chinese culture. He introduces Tony to Master Zhu, who agrees to take Tony on as an apprentice and helper. Using patience, kindness, and stories about his life, Master Zhu gives Tony a lesson in art and respect for self and others.
