Abby is back at camp, but this year things are difficult. Her friend Rose is busy helping the counselors, and Abby's first bunkmate gets sent home with chiggers. Her new bunkmate, Shasta, seems great-she's pretty and fun, and she likes the same books that Abby does. But Abby's other friends think Shasta is snobby and dishonest, and they can't stand her. Abby is caught in the middle, and when she begins spending time with Teal, a boy she has a crush on, things only get more complicated. Black-and-white art.
Summary When Abby’s first unpleasant bunkmate, Deni, has to leave camp because she has chiggers, a bunk opens up for late-arriving Shasta. Abby and Shasta find common interests and begin a friendship, but the other girls in the cabin find Shasta stuck-up and strange. They also don’t believe her story about being struck by lightning. Abby finds herself pulled in two directions, and she alternately strikes out at one group, then the other, as the sets of friends gossip and backbite. At the same time, Abby meets Rose’s nerdy cousin Teal, a boy whom Beth and Zoe look down on and whom Shasta threatens to steal.
