Brooklyn Bridge

John Roebling, designer and chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge, died in a ferry accident before construction began. His son, Washington Roebling, took over the project. Fourteen years later, after twenty deaths and fraud by a wire supplier, the bridge was finally completed. It was such an engineering marvel that it was hailed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World."
