When Jane's mother married Ned, the family left their beloved Massachusetts seaside home, because Ned had gotten a teaching job in Canada. "Our family lasted almost one year in Saskatchewan. It took the town that long to figure out that Ned didn't speak any French." Now they are traveling across Canada to see a mysterious friend from Ned's past-and to meet a family they never knew he had.
